The spot from which I made this photograph is one of my favorite places on the face of the earth...Muley Point in southern Utah. I discovered it years ago thanks to a park ranger who understood my request for "off the beaten path." My spot is actually a few miles off the pavement to the "real" Muley Point, and overlooks the Goosenecks of the San Juan River Gorge, looking south towards Monument Valley.
I don't recall how many times I have camped at this spot and let it feed my soul. I can sit and contemplate, my camera set up and at the ready, and wait for the most marvelous storms to build up over the Valley.
The afternoon I made this image was far from my first visit and certainly not my last. And for now, it is still somewhat protected as being part of the Glen Canyon National Recreation Area.
For the technically inclined, 8x10 Tri-X film.
