YUCCA POINTS IN SNOW, SANTA FE, NEW MEXICO

Sometimes it pays to look in your own backyard! Several years after we moved to Santa Fe, we had a beautiful big snow storm. Snow was still enough of a novelty to this California transplant that I headed out with our then 7-year-old daughter to make a snowman, throw snowballs and otherwise enjoy the stillness and beauty of the winter landscape.

Santa Fe is a high desert climate, and yuccas abound on our property. Normally, I avoid them (sharp and pointy leaves!), but when I saw the little points of this lone yucca plant peeking out from under the snow, I got up close and personal with my 8x10. I love the hardy resilience of these plants, even if I don’t like encountering their sharp points.

8x10 negative. Printed on 11x14 Ilford paper, over-matted to 16x20. Signed and numbered as part of a limited edition.
